Reduce, Re-use & Recycle

Reduce

Nail Boxes

As part of our aim to reduce plastic packaging, we are developing a boxed alternative for the 1kg and 2.5kg nail bags.

TIMtubs

As part of our aim to reduce plastic packaging, we are developing boxed alternatives to any screws currently available in a tub.

TIMfoils

We are launching a new range of TIMfoils. There is 25% more volume (400%) or 100% more volume (600ml) and 96% less waste generated.

Re-Use

All of our pallets are available to be re-used. TIMco is currently supporting its local community by partnering with Bees In Our Community – a bee conservation organisation based in Northwich and operating throughout Cheshire. TIMco has committed to supplying the charity with all their fixing needs to achieve their targets. They have also contributed to the re-design of the hives so that they can be made from timber originally used in pallets. This mutually beneficial opportunity has reduced the amount of timber being recycled.

Simon Midwood, Managing Director of TIMco, comments: “We are excited to be supporting local initiatives such as Bees in Our Community and to be helping them with such a positive initiative. As a ‘Founding Sponsor’, we look forward to continuing to support the organisation’s outstanding work and to help make a positive environmental impact within our local community. In the future, we hope to have some hives on TIMco’s land in order to bring our support for this cause to life.”

Recycling

Single Use Plastic and Cardboard

TIMco takes its environmental responsibility very seriously and is currently auditing its range of 7,000 products to determine ways in which it can further reduce the levels of single use plastic and cardboard.

We already have a number of measures in place to improve the recyclability of our bags and packs by using a mixture of PE (Polyethylene) and PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) with added Nylon Fibres for strength.  Made from a mixture of virgin and recycled plastic, the bags and packs are 100% recyclable as indicated on the packaging.  Our plastic tubs are made from polypropylene, which is also fully recyclable.

The cardboard used in our packaging is sourced from either recycled cardboard or from wood-based products from well-managed forests and independently certified in accordance with the rules of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).  All of our packaging cardboard is recyclable.

Logos

We are also liaising with our suppliers to ensure the appropriate logos are being used to highlight the origins of the packaging materials as well as the appropriate logos to encourage recycling where possible.

Recycle logos are also being applied to all new products wherever possible, you will start to see them on the new ranges unless the boxes are completely plain. There are two symbols that will now begin to appear on box artwork.

The Mobius Loop

This indicates that an object is capable of being recycled, not that the object has been recycled or will be accepted in all recycling collection systems. Sometimes this symbol is used with a percentage figure in the middle to explain that the packaging contains x% of recycled material. This will appear on the boxes for the new Veto Steel Hinges currently in development

The Forest Stewardship Council Logo

The FSC logo identifies wood-based products from well managed forests independently certified in accordance with the rules of the FSC. This logo will start to appear on our Stainless Steel Screw boxes.

Merchandising Solutions

We are currently exploring the possibility of moving all shelf ready merchandising solutions to FSC approved cardboard and removing the need for Correx versions

Office and Warehouse

All plastic and cardboard generated by TIMco Head Office and Warehouse functions is removed by an approved, regulated contractor to be recycled offsite.
