Keeping sites safe and secure

It’s clear that theft from building sites and vandalism remains a significant issue for the construction industry, with figures from the Chartered Institute of Building suggesting that last year theft and vandalism cost the sector more than £800 million, a potentially conservative figure considering that some crimes go unreported.

To support merchants and to meet the demand for a broader range of security products, TIMco has recently increased its VETO Security & Ironmongery range to include a complete range of padlocks, including brass, laminated, waterproof and heavily armoured locks, as well as cable locks, security chains, key cabinets and also ratchet straps.

The products are all clearly labelled with a security rating between one and 10, so customers are able to easily select the right product for their needs. The products are also clearly labelled as to their durability and ability to withstand weather conditions, again ranging from minimum weather protection for internal locks through to maximum protection if the lock is required for extreme conditions.

The packaging on the products is critically important to label the product’s capability, durability and also where it would be best applied in domestic or industrial situations, whether for toolboxes, cabinets or lockers through to site machinery or shutters and gates. Clearly labelling products also supports merchant employees with helping customers select the right product for the right application.

The dedicated TIMco Sales Support team can also provides training, available to merchant employees to help ensure that they are fully aware of each product’s capabilities and benefits, along with a Specialist Product Guide which provides a thorough summary of the full range to assist in the training. The training offered by TIMco can take place either at a merchant’s or in the company’s own quality control and training facilities in Cheshire.

Sadly, theft from sites or vandalism of places of work are likely to continue until measures are taken to protect products, people and places. However, simple measures can make a big difference, and one of the most effective actions is to make site security products available and to have informed employees that can share products’ benefits and uses. This way, by working together, we can all help keep sites secure.
